چکیده

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is steadily increasing, mostly due to a combination of obesity, urbanization, and ageing population.1,2 In parallel, the prevalence of its macrovascular and microvascular complications, such as diabetic nephropathy (DN), which occurs in 20 to 40% of type 2 diabetic patients, has risen.3,4 Despite efforts made to slow the progression of DN, this is still the most common cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in developed countries.3,5-7

Diabetic retinopathy is a poor predictor of type of nephropathy in proteinuric type 2 diabetic patients.

BACKGROUND Both diabetic nephropathy (DN) and nondiabetic nephropathy (NDN) are reported to occur in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). The precise diagnosis of the type of nephropathy has obvious clinical and prognostic implication. The aim of the study was to evaluate the histologic spectrum of nephropathy in proteinuric type 2 diabetic patients and to find the correlation between t...

Renal accumulation of pentosidine in non-diabetic proteinuria-induced renal damage in rats.

BACKGROUND Advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) contribute to the pathogenesis of diabetic glomerulopathy. The role of AGEs in non-diabetic renal damage is not well characterized. First, we studied whether renal AGE accumulation occurs in non-diabetic proteinuria-induced renal damage and whether this is ameliorated by renoprotective treatment. Secondly, we investigated whether renal AGE accum...

Thrombospondin 1 Deficiency Ameliorates the Development of Adriamycin-Induced Proteinuric Kidney Disease

Accumulating evidence suggests that thrombospondin 1 (TSP1) is an important player in diabetic nephropathy. However, the role of TSP1 in podocyte injury and the development of non-diabetic proteinuric kidney disease is largely unknown. In the current study, by using a well-established podocyte injury model (adriamycin-induced nephropathy mouse model), we examined the contribution of TSP1 to the...

Spectrum of renal diseases associated with extreme forms of insulin resistance.

Diabetic nephropathy is the leading cause of ESRD in the United States. Why the pathogenic mechanisms lead to nephropathy in certain patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes and spare others is unclear, but it is clear that hyperglycemia and glomerular hyperfiltration are important factors. In patients with syndromes of extreme insulin resistance, proteinuric forms of renal disease are common, but i...

Involvement of the Tubular ClC-Type Exchanger ClC-5 in Glomeruli of Human Proteinuric Nephropathies

UNLABELLED Glomerular protein handling mechanisms have received much attention in studies of nephrotic syndrome. Histopathological findings in renal biopsies from severely proteinuric patients support the likelihood of protein endocytosis by podocytes. ClC-5 is involved in the endocytosis of albumin in the proximal tubule. AIM To investigate whether ClC-5 is expressed in the glomerular compar...
